Seasons Change… And So Do I

It’s 1:45 am and the rhythm of my husband’s snoring is less soothing tonight than it is irritating. I am fully awake and my head is spinning from watching a special on the life (and death) of George Harrison, followed immediately by the sad story of Eric Clapton’s son’s untimely death. Death has been on my mind a lot lately as I feel the fall

Through the Eyes of the Storm

I promise, you will get through this.  Maybe not tonight, but with much assurance I can tell you that it will happen. The ebb and flow of pressure on your broken heart will subside, and you will find your stride and a new “normal”.  You are going to be all right, I promise that too.  I know because I’ve been there. Losing a loved one

A Table for One

One of the hardest things to deal with when you are newly single is how life continues to whirl along without any regard to the trauma which you have just gone through.  You’re still moving back and forth between your “before” life and where you are now as you try to get comfortable with this new role of yours. You have your days where you

On Divorce

Just like that, with the stroke of a pen, it’s over.  No more strategy sessions.  No more jockeying.  No more discussion.  No more “we.” You stand up with a slight hesitation as you hear them say that you’re free to go.  “Go where?” you say, almost out loud.  You feel like the proverbial deer in headlights as the attorneys head for the door.  And so

AFTER A WHILE

"After a while you learn
the subtle difference between
holding a hand and chaining a soul
and you learn
that love doesn’t mean leaning
and company doesn’t always mean security.
And you begin to learn
that kisses aren’t contracts
and presents aren’t promises
and you begin to accept your defeats
with your head up and your eyes ahead
with the grace of woman,
not the grief of a child
and you learn
to build all your roads on today
because tomorrow’s ground is
too uncertain for plans
and futures have a way of falling down in mid-flight.
After a while you learn
that even sunshine burns
if you get too much
so you plant your own garden
and decorate your own soul
instead of waiting for someone
to bring you flowers.
And you learn that you really can endure
you really are strong
you really do have worth
and you learn
and you learn
with every goodbye, you learn."

The Toll of Grief

In the glistening of the rising sun, you pray he comes to you. You close your eyes and try to feel him but sadness is not easy to penetrate. You move within the home you created together and it echos with emptiness. The dog lifts … [Read More...]

Thanks for Giving!

Who out there has ever experienced a thanksgiving day that goes totally according to plan? I know I haven’t. And for some odd reason, I still volunteer to take on the whole enchilada from planning to shopping to cooking. You see, I have this fantasy … [Read More...]
